Journeys

It was pointed out today that my blog is more than a little boring, and not really worth reading. This didn't really bother me as I suspected as much myself. I don't really have a problem if people find reading my thoughts boring, because I'm not writing to entertain. I'm just recording my thoughts on things, and in some cases my experience.

I've blogged about my plans, some ideas, a few aims or hopes. Not too many though, I tend to keep most to myself. Mainly I've blogged about my experiences, thoughts and opinions. Especially in regards to new technology, books I've read or films I've seen. I don't think I've mentioned the games I play, I might start if I get back to gaming when I get home. Someone suggested that a blog should have a topic and be about stuff. Well, my blog has a topic, it's about me. Actually, that's a little self aggrandising so I'll just move swiftly along.

Something I seem to have picked up along the way is a tendency to be quite impersonal and a little distant in my writing. I make an effort not to mention people where possible and when I feel I have to, I try to be abstract with my references. I don't think I've referenced anyone directly, though I could be mistaken about that. I'm now sure why I do this, why I feel there is a need for some twisted sort of stoic professionalism on my personal blog.

It was possibly spurred by my tendency towards personal privacy where online matters or concerned. Though I have a suspicion I may have just picked it up from the hosts of The Adventuring Party, who avoid naming names over a presumed fear of litigation for slander or the like.

As one might have suspected, a trip to Oktoberfest was not my idea. It was actually my girlfriend who thought it up. She loves to travel and has a taste for fine food and drink, so the 200th anniversary of Oktoberfest was a natural destination for her. She initially planned to head on her own, but I decided to tag along. I guess she was a little concerned that I might not get the most out of a drinking festival because she invited two friends to join us on our trip.

Sure I won't be drinking, but a weekend away in a nice city should be great fun regardless, especially considering the company I'll have. We're still trying to get some good value accommodation before the flights become unaffordable, but I'm already giddy with anticipation. I'm sure it'll be a fantastic trip.

  3. Ha ha, I don't think your blog is boring, it has several topics, technology, programming and Holland :)

My favourite are the Holland bits, mostly because I know nothing of programming :P

  5. It seems to be a thoroughly sensible way to think of a blog. Carry on!
